Discover Lake Junaluska
Avalon home owners live less than five minutes from a spectacular mountain lake amenity.
Lake Junaluska, is named after nearby Mount Junaluska, which is named after the famous Cherokee Indian leader Chief Junaluska.
Lake Junaluska is the headquarters of the World Methodist Council, which is located on the campus of the Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center. The town and Retreat Center sit on a beautiful 200 acre mountain lake. All are welcome to enjoy the 2.6 mile walking trail which wraps around the lake shoreline. There’s a public swimming pool, canoe and kayak rentals and so much more!
The Conference and Retreat Center hosts events for the United Methodist Church beginning in April and lasting through the fall of each year. There are events for all ages. The most famous tradition for Lake Junaluska is the youth performance on the last day of each retreat week. On the final night visitors walk to the outdoor chapel near the cross and sing “Pass It On.” On the final words, the youth yell “Praise God!” into the mountains. The sound can be heard for miles as it echoes through and over the mountain lake valley.
