Spring Has Arrived In The Carolina’s

Spring time in Western NC is quite unique. Surrounded by the mountain of NC, you can experience the spring in a whole new way. You will see nature come alive with so much color and beauty! From the plants blooming to wildlife on display, spring time in the mountains is spectacular! Living in Avalon puts you so close to so many great spring activities. Take Me Out To The Ballgame!
Baseball season begins in the spring. Come out and see Asheville’s home team, The Asheville Tourist play! Spend an afternoon or evening at the ballpark watching a game and enjoying stadium treats, like hotdogs and ice cream.

Get Lost In The Garden!
From March to May the gardens at Biltmore Estate are at their peak. Come and enjoy the beautiful festival of flowers. Tulips, irises, roses, and so much more will be blooming in the coming months. It is a gorgeous garden that you can enjoy.

Let The Horses Run!
The Block House Steeplechase thoroughbred race is in Tryon, NC and it has been running since 1947, the longest steeplechase in NC. Wear your racing best (ladies, find a gorgeous hat – it’s tradition)! Picnic and make a day of it.

Climb Aboard The Train!
The Great Smokey Mountain Railroad Scenic Tour is a great way to see the mountains in the spring! The train tours depart from the depot in Bryson City, which is near Cherokee, NC. There are open air and covered cars, dining options, and beautiful mountain scenery.

Find Treasure!
The North Carolina Arboretum is a NC treasure! It is located in Asheville and is great to explore during the spring. There are garden exhibits, trails for bicycle riding and hiking, kid friendly activities, tours, and more!

Jump In The Saddle!
The Queen’s Farm Riding Stables are located right next door to Avalon in Waynesville, NC. You can take a horseback riding tour of the mountains! There are several different tour options for short or long tours. What a fun way to see the mountains of western NC!

Buy The Farm!
The Western NC Farmer’s Market open air market is in Asheville on a 36 acre site with mountain views. It is open all year long, 7 days a week. You can buy fresh, local fruits, vegetables, jams, and honey. There are also crafts and other farm treats, too.

Fly Through The Trees!
Fly through the trees of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the #1 Zipline on the East Coast. At Navitat you can choose from several courses designed for the beginners to the most experienced. Down By The River!
For those days you just want to relax and float on down life’s river, grab an inter-tube from Zen Tubbing. They’ll take you upriver of the French Broad River and let out to float right by the The Biltmore Estates, and you can float through the heart of Asheville. Bring a cooler and a friend for a full day of relaxation.

Cut A Rug!
Just around the corner of Avalon in Maggie Valley Stompin Grounds is Western North Carolina’s home to traditional mountain and bluegrass music showcasing traditional mountain dance. Come swing a partner with square dancing or simply sit back and watch world-class dancers cut a rug or enjoy some of the finest clogging dancers in the world give a show. This fun for the whole family.

For the truly adventurous take to the rivers with Nantahala Outdoor Center. NOC one of the world’s best outfitters and they’re located all over Western North Carolina. NOC offers professional guided tours of some of the best river runs on the east coast. Choose from Nantahala River, Chattooga River, Pigeon River, French Broad River and Nolichucky River. NOC also has all the gear you’ll need along with lessons for beginners. Some folks say it’s the best way to see these ancient mountains.
